The Feast of the Confession of St. Peter is a commemoration of the moment when the apostle Peter proclaims Jesus to be the Christ. This passage is in Matthew, Mark, and Luke and includes Jesus blessing Peter for his answer and saying ‘On this rock, I will build my church’.
There are so many lessons we can learn from the life of Peter! When we fail as Peter did, the quicker we can reconnect to Jesus, the better. He holds the key for us for us to have our relationship restored to Him and to begin again.
Jesus sees us as He created us to be. Peter was a brash fisherman, but Jesus called him by his new name, meaning “Rock”, the very first time he saw him.
Also, Peter found great courage in Jesus as he stepped out of a boat onto the sea or faced other challenges.
Beloved by Christians everywhere for his humanness, we can take comfort in our failings and know that we can still trust God and believe we can become all that God wants us to be in spite of ourselves!
