We gather in the evening to share in the intimate fellowship of the Upper Room, alone with Jesus and his disciples. Our love for Jesus brings us here; his love floods over us because this service is all about love. In love, he mysteriously makes his own body and blood available to us. In love, he tenderly serves up, refreshing us through the lowly task of washing our feet. In love, he makes it possible for us to fulfill his new commandment to love one another. Then we say goodbye to him as the clergy carry the sacrament into the side chapel and remove the remaining evidence of his presence from the church.
